Selling LDD designs
« em: 16 de Julho de 2007, 19:32:29 »
Hi, I have been a little bit lost :)

There is a new business out there. Many people are selling LDD designs to publicity agencies.
Will LEGO allow it?

Hi Juan, welcome back!

I didn´t know anything about that, were did you see/read that?!

Maybe the best person to answer that is Tânia but she hasn't been around lately. I'll ask her (or maybe Luís does first)

I'll try to tell you the whole story.

Publicity Agencies uses LEGO MOCs many times, but because the LEGO Certified Professional program is almost close, it's hard for them to find designers.

Designers like Arvo need to buy pieces from Bricklink and other places, taking a long, long, time to make a MOC.

With the new LDD and the incresed assortment of pieces, it's easy for designer to make the model in LDD.

I can't see how they can not allow it. The designs are the property of the respective owners, the use of LDD is governed by terms of use but they only go as far as forbidding the use of the program itself to ends outside LEGO's permission.
This means you can do whatever you want with the program, then build it and sell it, as long as you do not claim to sell the programm or use the program as the tool for sale (do not confuse with "tool with which you prepare what you sell" - that part is allowed). Do not print screens or models to present the product, rather buy the parts and build the model, which then you can sell.

So I believe juan is refering to using LDD to build a concept/model and then sell it as an LDD file, which would be illegal

Breech of contract (it's not illegal in the sense that it does not break legislation, but it renders the existing contract void and allows for civil action).
