Video: The right look for a LEGO® House
The LEGO Group today revealed the design of the experience center “The LEGO House”. The center, which will be built in Denmark, illustrates the systematic creativity of LEGO bricks and is expected to attract 250,000 visitors annually.

When the LEGO House opens in 2016 visitors to the house in Billund, Denmark will enter a building that resembles gigantic LEGO bricks combined and stacked in a creative way to create an imaginative experience both outside and inside. In the experience center guests can expect hours full of active fun while at the same time engaging in an educational and inspirational experience – everything that LEGO play offers.
Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO owner, explains:
“The LEGO House will show the past, present and future of the LEGO idea and I am certain it will be a fantastic place, where LEGO fans of all ages and their families and friends will get a wide range of unique LEGO experiences. It is our belief that LEGO play fosters innovative thinking, and the LEGO House gives us an opportunity to make it very tangible what LEGO play offers and how it stimulates children’s creativity and learning.”
The project has been under way for more than a year and today the design of the house was revealed.
“Architect firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) has designed a building that encapsulates what LEGO play and LEGO values are all about”, says Hans Peter Folmann, Marketing responsible for the LEGO House and adds:
“The creative use of the LEGO brick shape is a true visualization of the systematic creativity that is at the core of LEGO play, so we believe that this is the right look for the LEGO House. And it simply looks amazing.”
You can see an early concept video of the LEGO House here. The interior of the building has not been designed yet and will look very different from what can be seen in the video.

In 2016 LEGO fans of all ages can experience the LEGO® story and the endless possibilities of the LEGO brick in a 12,000 m2 experience center in Billund, Denmark. Today the foundation stones of the unique “LEGO House” were laid.
Three generations of the owner family of the LEGO Group today laid the six foundation stones of the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark, the hometown of the LEGO Group. The six stones – precisely dimensioned to represent six classic LEGO® bricks – symbolise the values which are at the heart of all LEGO experiences: Imagination, creativity, fun, learning, caring and quality.
“For my family and me, the LEGO Group has always been much more than just a company and our products more than just products. I am very passionate about play and how children learn through playing with LEGO bricks. This is essentially the LEGO idea and what the LEGO House is all about. I look forward to seeing the long time dream of having one place where anyone can experience the LEGO idea come true,” says Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, grandson of the founder and current LEGO Group owner.
Hands-on minds-on experience for fans of all ages
The LEGO House will be a hands-on minds-on experience center where LEGO fans of all ages can come and experiment with LEGO bricks, share stories with LEGO bricks, express their imagination and creativity through LEGO bricks, and not least be challenged as LEGO builders by meeting other builders from all over the world.
While the interior experiences of the LEGO House are still under development, the building is in itself a tribute to the LEGO brick, as the architectural shapes are based on the LEGO brick.
Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner of BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group and the architect behind the LEGO House said:
"For me the LEGO brick embodies the notion of systematic creativity – that the rigour and rationality of the LEGO brick allows children of all ages infinite possibilities to create their own worlds and to inhabit them through play. We have been inspired by the modularity of the LEGO brick to create the LEGO House. It will appear like a cloud of interlocking LEGO bricks that form spaces for exploration and exhibition for its visitors within. On the outside the pile of bricks form the roof of a new covered square as well as a mountain of interconnected terraces and playgrounds."
Delivering the ultimate LEGO experience
The building is expected to open for visitors in 2016, and today marked the official start of the construction phase. At the event, Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO of the LEGO Group said:
“Today, we sow the seeds that will grow over the next many months to become the one and only place in the world where any child, fan, family, and adult can visit and experience the true LEGO story and be inspired by the endless possibilities of the LEGO brick.”
When construction of the LEGO House is completed in 2016, a gigantic LEGO brick will sit on top of the 23 meter tall building which will cover an area of 12,000 m2 – including a 2,000 m2 covered square.
The LEGO House will feature vast experience areas, a café, a unique LEGO store, the public square as well as the several open roof terraces. It is expected that approximately 250,000 people will visit the LEGO House annually.
The Mayor of Billund municipality, Ib Kristensen said at the event:
“We are proud that the LEGO Group has chosen Billund as the location for the LEGO House. It is a testament to the strong connection between the company, the owner family and the local community which has lasted decades, and it is a significant contribution to the future development of our community.”
The LEGO House is definitely going to mark the town of Billund, said Søren Lund, General Manager of the LEGO House:
“We hope that the LEGO House will be an attraction in itself and become a gathering point for both local citizens and the many people visiting Billund. Not only because of the fantastic architectural building but also because it will be free to climb the building through stairs and experience the imaginative terraces. I am very excited to follow the construction phase and look forward to welcoming the first guests and giving them the ultimate LEGO experience.”

Facts about the LEGO House
• LEGO House will be 12,000 m2.
• LEGO House will be 23 m tall.
• There will be public access over and across the house using stairs and terraces.

• The largest part of the LEGO House will be for paying visitors, consisting of four specially designed play zones. The play zone exhibits and activities will offer guests completely unique LEGO experiences, inviting them to use their minds as well as their hands. Visitors will also be presented to the story of the family company including the development of the LEGO products, the LEGO brand and the LEGO Group. On the top of the building the Keystone Gallery is situated, completely shaped as a classical LEGO brick.

Parece-me um projecto muito interessante no aspecto formal, com um programa muito bem definido e organizado. Esteticamente está muito relacionado com o universo LEGO e não cai (nem se aproxima) no kitch em que muitas vezes os projectos do género tendem a ser. Apesar de gostar imenso da arquitectura pura e branca, faz-me confusão não encontrar um único apontamento de cor no exterior do edifício, no interior a cor espalha-se pelo pavimento, mas, ainda assim gostava de ver relações exterior - interior através de apontamentos de cor. Se pensarmos em LEGO, algo a que associamos de imediato são as cores (também presentes no logo desta comunidade).
Mas ainda assim, gosto muito do projecto :-)d

Tudo bem que eu sou fã de LEGO e adoraria visitar Billund na inauguração do museu, mas por ABSOLUTAMENTE NADA, SOB NENHUMA HIPÓTESE nesse mundo eu trocaria assistir ao vivo as Olímpiadas de 2016 na minha cidade maravilhosa para poder parar na Dinamarca e ver LEGO! Os AFOLs que me perdoem, mas adorei a notícia! Especialmente porque acho que se fosse mantida a inauguração em 2016 seria agosto o mês escolhido, exatamente coincidindo com o evento. LEGO que me perdoe, mas meu coração gosta mais de esporte.

Já há mais novidades sobre o que existirá dentro da LEGO House, the Home of the Brick!
Primeira e boa notícia, a LEGO House abrirá no próximo Outono de 2017, data ainda por anunciar. No entanto, parece-me que se levanta o véu da data de revelação da data: "Ticket sales start in June 2017 where the exact opening hours will appear."

Eis que é revelada uma das mais aguardadas supresas que irão figurar dentro da LEGO House, a enorme escultura em LEGO que figurará no centro da escadaria que nos leva aos pisos superiores, zona de acesso reservada a acesso com bilhete pago.
The Tree of Creativity is one of the world's biggest - and most technically complicated LEGO models ever built.
In the midst of LEGO House stands one of the world’s most iconic LEGO models, at over 15m tall and packed full of details and surprises even the most avid LEGO enthusiast cannot fail to be impressed by the Tree of Creativity
Originally the team had a few more ideas for alternative models, but in the end it was the tree that won because the idea was so strong. The base and roots of the tree represent the LEGO Group foundation in wooden toys and at the very top LEGO minifigure workers are building new branches using a giant crane. Just like LEGO House itself.
The unique LEGO model is built by hand from 6.316.611 standard LEGO bricks and took 23.500 hours to assemble.

Há novidades na LEGO House, saiu hoje um comunicado à imprensa dando conta que o restaurante Le Gourmet vai fechar para dar espaço a um conceito diferente de partilha de comida em família.
A razão apontada é de que quando existe bastante afluência de visitantes não há capacidade instalada de oferta para refeições a toda a gente, além disso é indicado que não havia um fluxo constante de clientes para o conceito de cozinha refinada, mesmo sendo o único restaurante deste tipo em Billund.
Após alguma ponderação, chegou a altura de decidir e optou-se por aumentar a oferta em vez de manter um conceito mais virado para nichos.
Guest record and new food concept
2019 was a huge success in LEGO® House, reaching no less than 281,786 paying guests and thus a 15% growth compared to 2018. But this success comes with a cost, says Managing Director Jesper Vilstrup:
“We are really proud that we in 2019 exceeded our expectations for the number of guests in both the Experience Zones and in the public area of LEGO Square. But unfortunately having this many guests means that we cannot provide the dining experience we would like to in our eateries - the capacity is simply too low. And that applies both to the kitchen and in the restaurant areas."
Therefore, management has made the decision to close the fine-dining restaurant, LE GOURMET, and the restaurant will therefore not open with the rest of the house after the winter close-down on January 18, 2020.
Jesper Vilstrup says:
“Closing LE GOURMET has been a difficult decision as we basically love the restaurant and the idea of having a great gourmet restaurant in Billund. On the other hand, it is no secret that it has been difficult to attract a continuous flow of guests into the restaurant. And when you consider that we have capacity challenges for our dining LEGO House guests during the day, it ultimately makes sense to utilise the space better.”
Already in weeks 6 and 7, LEGO House will test a new food concept. It will be a modern "share food" concept, where guests do not receive individual servings, but share the meal with their friends and families at the table.
It is therefore not a question of involving the upper floor to expand the popular MINI CHEF restaurant - but instead to offer an entirely new food concept, which is especially relevant on the days when there are a lot of guests in LEGO House.
“Our kitchen, which serves MINI CHEF, is already too low on capacity, so we can't increase the production in there. With the new “share food concept” we get a delicious alternative to MINI CHEF and our BRICKACCINO café, which we expect our guests will welcome. It is still very important for us to provide a high quality experience, and this applies whether you play in the Experience Zones or whether you have to refuel in the eateries, ”says Jesper Vilstrup.

Após este período conturbado a LEGO House vai reabrir a 22 de Junho, a entrada no espaço será sempre autorizada atavés da pré-compra de bilhete ou através de reserva antecipada mesmo para quem possui livre-trânsito anual.
Para divulgar esta notícia fizeram um vídeo bastante engraçado (https://www.facebook.com/OfficialLEGOHOUSE/videos/827977407731400/), uma cadeia de corações brick built a caírem em efeito de cascata à semelhança de peças de dominó ao longo da Masterpiece Gallery.

4) 72-HOUR LEGO BRICKS QUARANTINE: We introduces 72-hour LEGO bricks quarantine. All the brick containers are emptied and cleaned every day before being refilled with bricks which have been in 72-hour quarantine.
Para quem já esteve na LH estamos a falar de quantidades massivas de bricks que estão em sistema de rotação todos os dias, sendo 72 horas (3 dias) o novo período de quarentena. Serão pelo menos 4 conjuntos iguais de cada playzone de cada espaço da LH... :o
Impressionante medida pela sua escala, claro que peças é coisa que não falta em Billund e tanto quanto sei a rotatividade das piscinas já era algo que acontecia mas com uma frequência sasonal.

Para quem já esteve na LH estamos a falar de quantidades massivas de bricks que estão em sistema de rotação todos os dias, sendo 72 horas (3 dias) o novo período de quarentena. Serão pelo menos 4 conjuntos iguais de cada playzone de cada espaço da LH... :o
Parece-me uma decisão muito mais sábia do que andar a desinfetar montões de peças todos os dias (e desinfetar praias e desinfetar ruas e assumir que alguém sem febre está bom quando só 1/4 dos infetados exibem esse sintoma e por aí fora).

A LEGO House fez hoje um duplo anúncio, são só boas notícias!
Em primeiro lugar serão realizadas de forma gratuita visitas guiadas de 60 minutos com direito a realizar perguntas e respostas tudo em directo à zona da Colecção Histórica da LEGO, localizada na cave da LEGO House (há necessidade de pré-inscrição). Até ao momento existem duas tours para cada tema, uma de manha e outra ao inicio da tarde. Fica o comunicado oficial:

The LEGO Group started back in 1932 and its history is full of stories and play. To provide an in-depth live tour we offer 5 individual tours based on 5 important chapters of the LEGO Group’s history. The tour will be hosted by a LEGO historian, who is an expert in LEGO history, and you will be able to ask questions during the session via Live Chat. The tour guide will answer your questions live.
There are different timings of the sessions to cater for the different time zones you live in. Please be aware that we operate in Billund time (CET). We kindly ask you to convert the timing to your time zone.
Duration of each tour is 60 minutes. It’s free to participate but registration prior to the event is required.

A lista de conjuntos exclusivos continua a crescer tendo alguns já se tornado em autênticas raridades... Quanto aos sets exclusivos de edição limitada continuam a contar com o habitual envolvimento do LEGO Master Builder da LEGO House, o famoso Stuart Harris e entretanto o Designer oficial que finaliza o conjunto tem-se mantido o nosso bem conhecido Markus Rollbühler. Estes conjuntos só podem ser adquiridos na LEGO Branded Store (LBR) da própria LEGO House, em Billund.
