"The 50 Years of the Brick"

In the 31st of May and 1st of June, 2008, there will be an exhibition of LEGO® in the Sala Ginásio of the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Tomar.

This event is organized by the Câmara Municipal de Tomar (Tomar's City Hall), in partnership with Comunidade 0937, Casa Martins and Rial.

Several LEGO® models created by the members of the Community will be on display, covering several themes, such as City or Technic.

When the plastic brick manufactured by LEGO® was created, it is now 50 years, she was already a grandmother. She was born not in the last century but still in the nineteenth century. Today, with 114 years and eight months, there is only one person in the world older then her, a North American who just did 115.

Maria de Jesus is the eldest child of Europe, yet lucid and with some autonomy despite the long age. She lived for almost a century in the small village of Corujo, near Tomar city, there could not be anyone more appropriate to cut the ribbon opening of the 1º TomarLEGO, the event that celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of this toy that attracts children of all, yes it’s true, of all ages.

It is with great honour that the organisation of this initiative of the 0937Community at the invitation of Tomar City Council and with the support of the brand, announces that next Saturday, May 31, by 14.30 hours, TomarLEGO will be inaugurated at the Pavilion Gym City Hall by the hand of Maria de Jesus.

The initiative will include exhibition of original buildings, play areas - entertainment spaces where children can recreate with LEGO toys and a tender for building LEGO open to the public. The initiative is integrated also in Week of the Child and Environment, which begins Sunday, Children's Day, precisely at the Pavilion Hall.

Various themes represented in this event highlighting the vital LEGO City display with all the associated movement, a fun Western display inspired in the Lucky Luke universe; blink of an eye to engineering with the fantastic Technic buildings, including a huge crane of 3.40 meters and also a considerable range of creations on the theme Castle, among others.

TomarLEGO will open on May 31 till 19.30 and 20.30 for 23 hours and on June 1 from 11.30 to 13 and from 14 to 17 hours.
